The Essential Summer Car Service Checklist

Servicing your car is important if you want to maintain its reliability and performance, it’s also crucial for keeping your car safe on the roads for yourself and others around you. In the summer time driving conditions are much different to how they are in winter – the weather clears up and temperatures rise – which means there are a few things you need to check to keep your car safe and reliable.

Take a look through our essential summer car service checklist to find everything you need to take a look over!

Air Filter

A vehicles air filter should be swapped every 12,000 miles to ensure optimal performance. Your air filter will become clogged with dust and dirt over time, so it’s important to switch it out regularly to avoid any problems.

Wiper Blades

Wiper blades take a lot of stress through the winter clearing away snow and ice, which can leave them performing poorly when it comes to the summer time. If your wipers aren’t working too well it’s best to replace them to maintain full visibility on the road.

Windscreen Wash

Dirt and dust builds up on your car windows in the summer much easier than it does in the winter when there’s rain and snow to wash it away, which can affect your vision significantly. Make sure your vehicle is topped up with windscreen wash at all times throughout the summer to combat decreased vision.

Cooling System

With temperatures rising outside, your vehicle can quite easily overheat without a properly functioning cooling system. It’s important to check your vehicle’s cooling systems over as part of your summer service to ensure it’s safe to drive and won’t leave you broken down at the side of the road!

Oil & Brake Fluid

There’s not much different about your oil and brake fluid requirements in different seasons, but it’s a staple part of any vehicle service and you should make sure both are topped up accordingly to maintain your vehicle in the long term.

If you see signs of damage or a worn-out tread then you should swap your tyres for some new ones. Higher temperatures can cause tyre pressure to rise, which puts you at greater risk of a blowout if your tyres are cracked or worn.

If you have winter-specific tyres on your vehicle you should swap over to some all-season/summer tyres – the thread is much softer on winter tyres and will wear down significantly fast when compared to others.

Lastly, check the recommended pressure for your tyres and make sure you have them set at the right PSI for summer for optimal comfort and grip.

Air Conditioning

Driving on a hot summer’s day with no air conditioning can be daunting, so this is something you should consider when carrying out your summer vehicle service. If you think there’s something wrong with your air conditioning unit then consult a professional, it’s much easier than trying to fix something so complicated by yourself!
