Whether your car is your pride and joy or just something to get you from A to B, as the weather starts to warm, it is time to give it a big clean and check everything over.

Here are a few helpful tips to follow:

1) Check Your Brakes:

Check over your brakes for things like dirt, rust, and any issues that might need to be dealt with for them to function. Test them and listen for any unusual sounds, and take note of response time.

2) Inspect Your Tyres:

Whilst the season changes, it becomes crucial to inspect your tyres or change them if they are seasonal. Your tyre pressure is affected by different temperatures, which changes the fuel economy and steering responsiveness.

Once you have a reading, consult the owner's manual to compare and adjust as needed. Rotating your tyres is also a good idea as front tyres wear quicker than rear tyres - rotating can maximise their lifespan and equalise tread wear.

3) Check Your Alignment:

During the winter months, more potholes may begin to appear and going over them can cause problems for your vehicle. One such problem would be your steering alignment, which is noticeably changed when your car begins to veer to one side when driving. Consequently, this can cause increased tension on your tyres, so ensure you get this checked out.

4) Worrying Windscreen Wipers:

It could be time to replace your windscreen wipers if you can't remember the last time they got changed. Most wipers have a shelf life of up to a year, but if the weather has been exceptionally poor, it could be less, and you should look at them. To check the wipers, wash your windscreen with the windscreen fluid and see how the wipers deal with the water - if they still work, then a thorough clean may be all that is needed.

5) Wash Your Car:

After the Winter months, it is good to give your vehicle a thorough clean, paying close attention to the undercarriage. If left unchecked, this could lead to rust and other problems as salt, dirt, and grime quickly build up. Whilst checking, spray generously and wash: under the bumpers, beneath the wheel wells, and other crevices.

6) Everything Else:

Be sure to check your battery, spark plugs, hoses, belts, air filter and anything else you haven't already looked at - and as always, check fluid and oil levels.
